Abstract

Blastocystis spp. es el único cromista que parasita al humano, se transmite por via oral fecal mediante agua y alimentos contaminados puede presentarse de manera asintomática, sin embargo, en la mayoría de las infecciones los hospedadores presentan flatulencia, diarrea y cólico. El diagnóstico de Blastocystis spp. se realiza mediante la demostración del parásito en la heces del paciente, no obstante, para determinar el comportamiento patógeno, puede requerirse la cuantificación de la morfología parasitaria, determinación de enzimas claves del metabolismo del parásito, identificar la procedencia epidemiológica del parásito; así como la genotipificación basada en secuencias consenso del ADN del parásito
